Throughout this book, Stefano and Stéphanie Unterthiner — and Ylaios publishing — support the conservation of bears through contributions to IFAW (the International Fund for Animal Welfare), an organization that rescues and rehabilitates Russian bear cubs orphaned by hunters. IFAW also campaigns for a ban on killing hibernating bears in Russia, which leaves hundreds of cubs to die.

    Every photo by Stefano Unterthiner is available as a signed high-quality Fine Prints through this site.

     

    In order to produce beautiful archival prints, we go through an intricate process of scanning, enhancing and digitally printing of the images with the use of the latest technology, allowing for an edition of prints that are virtually identical, and that exceed the stability and longevity of prints made using less exacting processes. Our Fine Prints are made with an Epson printer on Arches or BFK Rives papers, which has the highest rating for image longevity, estimated at 70 years.


    Each prints are hand-signed by the artist.

    "THE KING'S ODYSSEY" — available in Italian, French and German —


    The "king’s odyssey" is the story of the adventurous journey made by the king penguins in the southern hemisphere. Every year in November, the penguins form large colonies in order to mate. The birds face countless perils: floods and storms, scavengers always ready to carry away a chick, orcas as well as other predators... This occurs also in the Crozet, a fascinating and inhospitable group of islands in the southern Indian Ocean, where Stefano worked several months for this project. The exceptional photographs by Stefano Unterthiner, which are gathered in this book, show us the many incredible aspects of the life of king penguins, as well as the albatrosses, cormorans, elephant seals and all of whom live in this remote land where they feed and reproduce, with one constant preoccupation: survival.

    The "king’s odyssey" is a fascinating journey to the one of the far ends of our planet.

    The King's Odyssey exhibition

    “King penguins return from the sea, alone or in small groups. Seen from the steep slopes of Possession Island, the penguins’ black and white silhouettes seems like fish that plough through the surface of the sea; they are agile and perfectly at home”. Thus begins the story of “The King’s Odyssey” (Contrasto, 2008), the successful book by wildlife photographer Stefano Unterthiner, the source of the photographs of this exhibit (60 images, 100x70 cm).
