POLAND - EUROPEAN BISON
Nikon D3 with 600 mm

From the Wild Wonders of Europe blog I got my first bison. With few images and a week later after my arrival in Poland! Yesterday evening, I found some solitary males and I have been able to approach them to shoot some portraits; males aren’t too shy, but it’s impossible to come close to a larger group of bison in the forest: they run away a hundred metre before you are able to get one single shot. Why the bison are becoming more and more shy, year after year, is unknown. In the next few days, with the support of the National Park, I hope to photograph a herd in a winter-feeding area. In fact, during the coldest months the bison are regularly fed: this to avoid a higher pressure to the vegetation of the forest. If the field work is not always easy, Stéphanie and myself enjoyed the evening eating in a local “pizzeria”; and I have to be honest: the “Siciliana” is great, even for an Italian!! Particularly with the local beer, named “Zubr”, which means bison! So, a perfect choice for me… In the meantime, I met a local nature photographer named Marek Kosinski. He knows about, and follows the Wild Wonders of Europe blog, and he kindly offered to help me for my bison photography! Stefano |
