Although the alpine chamois (Rupicapra rupicapra) is well distributed throughout the Alps of western Europe, it can be quite difficult to observe, and even more challenging to photograph! This report documents one year in the life of a population of chamois living in the Valnontey valley in the Gran Paradiso National Park (Italy). The photographs are a selection taken from my book on chamois, published in 2002.

In the text, I report the latest research on the behaviour and ecology of this species, based primarily on a 3-years study done for my Ph.D. thesis.
